There are 62 hamlets in the Sitheri hills. The total population is about 26000, on the ratio of male is 970 and female is 780. The literacy rate is also very low compare to any tribal area in the state like male is 41 % and female is 29 % till now. The Occupation is Dry Land Cultivation, producing seasonal crops, rearing cattle and sometimes they get opportunities to work on daily wages basis in department of forest.

While RIDO started working in Sitheri, there were no sufficient Health care centers run by Govt, the people were suffering from many diseases like Diarrhea, Anemic, Cataract, water borne diseases and skin diseases, Their Health Condition was very pathetic and they became malnourished. RIDO’s approach was holistic and more Emphasized on prevention and control, therefore we Established 7 dispensaries in different part of the Hills with qualified Health staff, The first Physician was from IRELAND.

Sitheri was declared as a notified area by British rulers during year 1928. The Tribal community were denied their forest rights and unable to utilize minor forest products. They were educated about various issues and proper training was given thus enabling them to raise their voices, claim and enjoy their rights. They have been relived from the clutches of moneylenders who charged exorbitant interest rates by the intervention of RIDO.
